Description
Blakeman & Henderson, a decorating company, commissioned high-quality porcelain, including dinnerware, from the Limoges region of France in the late 1890s to early 1900s.This auction is for a set of two Limoges France 2 Handle Cup Vignaud Antique Gold Damask Border Pattern White Porcelain.
Bouillon cups are used for a light soup course in a multiple course meal, such as a flavored broth. The cups have two handles. People with tremors or physical disabilities will use the cups for drinking tea and liquids because they can hold a cup with two hands and drink safely, so bouillon cups may replace tea cups in a table setting.
The cups are 2 1/4” by 3 ½”, about the size of a tea cup. The saucers are 5 3/4”.
Each piece has an embossed pattern border of gold, which required a lot of hand work at the factory.
There are thin lines of gold trim around the saucers and the cups that have disappeared in some places with time. The handles are trimmed in gold and also have faded areas. Around the rims of the cups there is also wear to the gold . Please see all pictures for details.
There are no chips, nicks, cracks, repairs or crazing.
