This book written to scholarly standards and extensively researched, yet makes good reading. Dr. Sutherland knew both coins and how to write.
It is from my personal collection. Am only selling because of a combination of age and illness.
About the author:
Dr. Carol Humphrey Vivian Sutherland (1908 – 1986) was a British numismatic historian. He was keeper of the Heberden Coin Room at the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, from 1957-1975, after spending the previous two decades as assistant keeper. He taught numismatics at the University of Oxford. He was considered “the doyen of Roman Numismatics”.
He was an editor of the multi-volume series “Roman Imperial Coinage”, from 1938 to his death. This series is the standard work on identification of coinage of the Roman emperors. He also authored many other books on coins, including, of course, this one. He was a
past president of the Royal Numismatic Society.
