Cloth hardcover with gilt spine title over original printed card covers, folio, 88 pages plus 6 engraved plates.
A scarce monograph devoted to the coins and tokens minted by the master engravers of Metz during the second half of the 16th century. The second part is a description of other coinage of regional interest.

Pierre-Charles Robert, born in Bar-le-Duc on November 21, 1812 and died on the December 15, 1887 in Paris, was a French military archaeologist and numismatist.
Military career
A former pupil of the École Polytechnique , Pierre-Charles Robert served almost his entire career in military administration, as assistant manager of the Imperial Guard in Paris, then in Metz . He was appointed, in 1862, director general of administration at the Ministry of War and finally promoted intendant general in 1867 before his retirement in 1875.
At the same time, he carried out various works in numismatics and published several times in the Revue numismatique française . Member of several learned societies, especially in the region and abroad, he was appointed correspondent in December 1862 and then member in 1871 of the Academy of Inscriptions and Belles Letters , replacing Prosper Mérimée .
Works
He joined the Gaul Topography Commission in 1873. Author of a series of notebooks kept at the National Archeology Museum , he provided assistance to General Casimir Creuly within the framework of the epigraphic project. At the same time, he continued to conduct research which he presented to the Academy, in particular on Mercure and Rosmerta or on inscriptions in the Bordeaux region. He also participates in the Recueil des inscriptions de Gaule project led by Léon Renier . Finally, he is the author of a major study on the Moselle inscriptions published from 1873. His papers and his library were bequeathed to the National Archaeological Museum by his widow in 1894.
Pierre-Charles Robert was knight of the Médjidié order in 1851 and then commander in 1865. He is buried in Père-Lachaise cemetery , division 41.
CONDITION:
Very Good ex library copy. (Library logo and call number number stamped on spine; no internal library markings. Uneven sun fading of cloth, light shelfwear. Small chip on front endpaper, owner’s name and tape repair on rear endpaper, second front endpaper has short closed tear. The original front wrapper has some discolored spots and soil. The Contents are tightly bound, complete and intact with light foxing of a few preliminary pages and some foxing spots on the plates.)
