Description
Impeccably and exquisitley detailed custom made Tuxedo (Tails) from 1909. Was made by the J.L. Taylor-International Tailoring Co. which was a Custom Men's clothing manufacturer based in New York and Chicago. The photos do not do the exceptional details and tailoring justice. The measurements on the jacket are......shoulder to shoulder- 16", from shoulder seam to hem of tail- 37", from shoulder seam to "point" in front of jacket-24", from shoulder seam to hem of sleeve- 24", seam to seam under armholes- 18". Jacket has satin (possibly silk) lapels and covered buttons. Pants are a 32" waist with a 31" inseam with an unusual braid "piping" on side of legs (see photo #7) with a large "hook and bar" closure, 6 suspender buttons, 3 button "zipper" closure, 4 slash pockets and one small "watch" pocket on right side just under the waistband (photo #5)
For a Tuxedo that is 110 years old, it is in VERY GOOD condition. There are a few problem areas. Most of the satin (silk) covered buttons show signs of wear, mainly on the right side (which leads me to believe that the original owner was right handed). There is a very small hole on the right pant leg (knee area) and on the lining of the left "tail" (see photos #10, #11). I believe that these are from a cigarette ash as opposed to a moth since there are only these two holes. There is a "brush" mark on the back of the jacket just above the two buttons (photo #12). Lastly, there is a 3" tear in the satin (silk) on the bottom of the outer edge of the right lapel (photo #9). I had consulted a clothing restorer (about 25 years ago) and was told that the tear and two holes would be able to be fixed. I just never got around to it before I outgrew the Tux.
This Tuxedo comes from a smoke and pet free environment and has been stored in a garment bag in a closet.
